Steelheaders leader to speak at meeting
The Mid-Valley Chapter of the NW Steelheaders will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the Albany Senior Center, 489 Water Avenue NW, Albany.
This month’s speaker will be Bob Rees, a professional fishing guide and director of the Association of NW Steelheaders. Rees will discuss current issues that the association is active in or is following closely. He will also demonstrate and discuss drift fishing with “rags” for steelhead.
The meeting will include door prizes and refreshments. The public is always welcome and admission is free.

Pancake supper Friday at Foster
Sweet Home Boy Scouts will serve their Foster Scouter Club Fund-Raiser Dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Foster School Cafeteria, 5526 Poplar St.
The all-you-can-eat dinner features pancakes, ham, eggs, coffee and milk. Gluten-free pancakes will be available. Cost is $5 for those over 12 and $3 for children under 12.
Also for sale will be tickets for a “Gift Basket” raffle, for $1 each. The drawing will take place at the dinner. Winners are not required to be present.

Genealogist to talk on WorldGen Web
Tom O’Brien will speak on “The WorldGen Web – A broader focus” at the Linn Genealogical Society a 1:15 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Ave. SE
O’Brien, of Portland, is very active at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon with German, Illinois and Irish Interest Groups. He is an avid traveler here and across the pond, as well as knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects. He is widely known amongst local genealogical groups, and is a member of our own society. He is always welcome at our meetings.
Many genealogists occasionally use U.S. GenWeb to help learn about available resources in geographic areas of interest. World GenWeb is similarly structured but can be a bit more challenging.

VB tourney to raise funds for Royalty
In conjunction with Husky Royalty (formerly Mr. Husky) Sweet Home High School will hold a three-on-three volleyball tournament at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9, as a fund-raiser for the annual pageant.
The registration price is $20 per team. Teams will choose a contestant to sponsor for each event.
Registration forms are available at the high school bookkeeper’s office from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. through March 6.
LBCC choirs to
perform March 12
Linn-Benton Community College’s winter choral concert “Wander in Song” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the LBCC Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
The performance includes the award-winning Concert Choir, Re-Choired Element Chamber Choir, and the vocal a cappella groups Blue Light Special and The Sirens. Penny Bazanele will accompany on piano.
The concert will feature different choral works celebrating a breadth of music from across the choral repertoire including: “Lebenslust” (Schubert), “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” (Betts), “Gloria” (from Haydn’s “Harmoniemesse”), “Skip to My Lou” (Busselberg), “The Conversion of Saul” (Stroope), “The Sweetheart of the Sun” (Barnum), “Pange Lingua” (Orban), and “Ngana” (Leek).
In addition, the ensemble will present many works from around the world, including a piece for piano four-hands and choir featuring Bazanele and guest pianist Judy Stevens.
The vocal a cappella ensembles will present some wonderful, upbeat works and an empowering medley including “All About That Bass,” “Love Whiplash,” “Royals,” “Stay With Me/Are You Going to Stay The Night,” “Cool Kids/Apologize,” and “Space Jam.”

St. Patrick’s Bingo for SAFE March 15
The Senior Alcohol-Free Entertainment organizing committee is holding a St. Patrick’s Day bingo event from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at the Sweet Home Elks Lodge.
Buy-in is $25 to play for the duration. There will be games for all ages and fun for all.

SHIBA Medicare class March 19
Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance, SHIBA, will hold a class that covers the basics of Medicare parts A, B, C and D on Thursday, March 19 from 10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center Annex, 44 Industrial Way.
The class is designed for anyone who will be eligible for Medicare within a few months or is new to Medicare, or for current beneficiaries who would like a better understanding their Medicare benefits and options for changes or additional coverage. Spouses and other relatives are welcome to attend. The free class is taught by a SHIBA counselor and sponsored by Linn-Benton RSVP.

Class for beginning gardeners March 10
Want to learn to garden?
A free five-week course, “Seed to Supper,” for beginner vegetable gardeners will be held Tuesday evenings, beginning March 10, at the River Center, 3000 South Santiam Highway, Lebanon.
Seed to Supper is for adults who will be gardening on a budget. All participants will receive a beginning gardening book to keep, along with seeds and/or starts. Classes, on topics including site and soil development for gardens, planning, planting and maintaining a garden, and harvesting, will be taught by OSU Master Gardeners.
Classes will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, from March 10 to April 7. The course is sponsored by OSU Extension and Oregon Food Bank.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, March 6, is chicken and white bean chili or zucchini lasagna, herbed carrots, spinach Romaine salad, French roll and chocolate chip bar.
The menu for Monday, March 9, is baked beef rigatoni or chicken rice bake, green beans, pickled beets, white dinner roll and fresh orange.
The menu for Tuesday, March 10, is meatloaf or turkey sandwich half on wheat bread, chicken noodle soup, marinated spring garden salad and chilled peaches.
