National Day of
Prayer Thursday
Sweet Home will observe the National Day of Prayer with an interdenominational gathering at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the Sweet Home Assemblyof God, 890 Mountain View Road.
Organizers are encouraging Sweet Home residents to take part in a slate of activities that emphasize prayer for our nation, our state, and our community.
A “Top of the Hour Prayer” list has been created with a prayer topic for the beginning of each hour from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Topics are as follows:
– 8 a.m. – The nation and our military.
– 9 a.m. – Our state and local government.
– 10 a.m. – Our police and fire departments.
– 11 a.m. – Our local schools and children.
– Noon – Our community, churches and service organizations.
– 1 p.m. – The poor and the powerless.
– 2 p.m. – The local economy and business.
– 3 p.m. – Repentance and spiritual renewal.
Also, various churches will have their doors open for a period of time during the day to welcome people who wish to pray or receive prayer. The day will culminate in the community gathering at Sweet Home Assembly. An offering will be received that evening for Hope Center and Sweet Home Pregnancy Care Center.

Holley auction
Friday at SHHS
Holley Elementary School will hold its annual auction beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Sweet Home High School.
Auction items include flower baskets, entertainment tickets, a Camp Tadmor scholarship, hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, bark dust, a rafting trip and much more. Donations continue to be accepted.
Dinner will be Philly cheesesteak or chicken strips.

Silent art auction
for LBCC galleries
The LBCC Art Gallery is holding a fund-raiser silent auction through Thursday, May 7, benefiting the galleries on campus.
Artwork will be up for bid, with closing bids and a reception from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. May 7 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
Bidders need not be present to win.
Donated artwork includes: art posters and original screenprints from the Gary Westford collection; drawing and paintings by Dori Litzer entitled “Journey” and “New Day;” “Black Lives Matter” by Analee Fuentes; a set of four collector’s Ekphrasis Books of photography and poetry; framed photography by Kurt Norlin and Kat Sloma; an unframed monotype print by Andy Myers from her bird series; and a green, hand-thrown ceramic pitcher by Renee McKitterick

Vintage bicycle show Saturday
The second annual Albany Vintage Bicycle Show & Swap Meet will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Deluxe Brewing Company, 635 NE Water Ave.
Viewers and participants are welcome. A collection of classic and unique bicycles will be on display in the main brewery area. All vintage bicycles produced prior to 1989 are eligible for registration. There will be awards in four categories: Best Rat/Custom, Best Vintage Original, Best Vintage Restored and Best Race/Road bicycle, in addition to an overall Best in Show award. Cost is $5 to enter a bike and $20 for a swap meet space. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Albany Regional Museum.

Herbal conference
Sunday in SH
A Green Arts Herbal Conference will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Sylvia’s Woodbine Orto – Herb Farm, 26380 Fern Ridge Road.
Speakers include a variety of herbalists, farmers and folk medicine practitioners. Topics include natural farm animal management and first aid, kitchen remedies, roots, microclimates and placement of medicinal herbs, an herb walk in the woods and more. Keynote speaker Charles Garcia will discuss the most practical and efficient herbs that can be grown on a small homestead.
Cost is $80 per person, which includes lunch, tea and refreshments, and conference notes. Children under 12 are free but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

LAFTA ‘Mary
Poppins’ auditions
The Lebanon Association for Theatre Arts will hold auditions for “Mary Poppins.”
Auditions are May 11 for children 8-12 at Cascades Elementary School, 2163 Seventh St. in Lebanon.
Teen and adult auditions are May 12, also at Cascades, and May 13 at the Latter Day Saints church at 2850 Grand Prairie Road SE in Albany.
Auditioners should be prepared to learn a short group dance number and sing a short section from a Broadway musical of your choice. Bring a copy of the sheet music to the audition for the accompanist, who will be provided. No a cappella allowed.

Women’s dinner to
focus on ‘Spring’
Lebanon’s After Five Connection invites local women to its monthly gathering from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at King’s Coffee House, 661 S. Main St. in Lebanon.
Cost is $7, including dinner, and only cash will be accepted. This month’s topic is “Spring Into Action,” with a special feature presented by Queen B Organizing. Guest speaker will be Sue Ann Haberly of Cottage Grove. Haberly is a former high school cheer leader who married her football sweetheart. She enthusiastically arranges extensive women’s events, and intimate tea parties. She will share her story of loneliness and family rejection to build a life of purpose.

BBQ/bingo night
for Forestry/4-H
Sweet Home Forestry Club and the Calapooia Critters 4-H Club will hold a BBQ Bingo Night from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at the Sweet Home High School Cafeteria.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Cards are 25 cents each per game or $20 for four cards for the duration of the evening. Every Bingo wins some barbecue fixin’s.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, May 8, is roasted turkey or Salisbury steak with gravy, whipped potatoes with gravy, green beans and tomatoes, onion bread and peach crisp.
The menu for Monday, May 11, is baked beef rigatoni or scalloped potatoes and ham; cut green beans, country coleslaw, cracked wheat roll and hermit bar.
The menu for Tuesday, May 12, is breaded baked fish with dill sauce or beef mushroom patty, creamed potatoes, broccoli cuts, oatmeal bread and lemon whip.
