Having problems with your plants?
Oregon State University Extension Service Master Gardeners will hold a free Plant Clinic from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the Sweet Home Farmers Market, in the square between the Sweet Home Library and the old City Hall.
They are available to help you with garden problems, large or small.
The walk-in consultation service will also available on Sept. 17.
Classes offered in food preservation
Oregon State University Extension Service Master Food Preservers are offering two classes in Preserving Tomatoes and Salsas and Making Fermented and Quick Pickles.
The hands-on classes are appropriate for both novice food preservers and those with experience who hope to update their skills and knowledge. They will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 4 and 11, at the OSU Linn County Extension office, 33630 McFarland Rd, (corner of Old Hwy. 34 and McFarland Road) in Tangent. Cost is $18 per class. Pre-registration is required.

Basic CPR class at
LBCC health center
A one-day course in American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Linn-Benton Community College Health Occupations Center, 300 Mullins Drive.
The course is for those looking to earn a non-credit, non-healthcare track CPR certification.
Those who complete it will earn a CPR certification card valid for two years, good for the workplace and beyond.

Pregnancy center to host run/walk
Obria Medical Clinic in Lebanon will hold a Walk, Run, Bike event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at Cheadle Lake Park.
Obria is an accredited medical facility that provides medical services to empower women to make positive decisions for themselves and their children, including free pregnancy testing, pregnancy confirmations via ultrasound examinations, educational classes, supplies and more.
Its mobile medical unit provides ultrasound exams and various tests at Sweet Home Pregnancy Care Center and in other local rural communities.
The goal of the Cheadle Lake event is to raise money for the organization through pledges.

Episcopal women plan trunk sale
The Episcopal Church Women’s group of St. Martin’s is hosting their Fifth Trunk Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, to support local community outreach programs.
The location will be St. Martin’s Church parking lot, at the corner of Milton and Williams streets in Lebanon. Convenient level parking, easily accessible.
Sale items include kitchen items, clothes, plants, books, crafts and more! Plus, children will have a chance to paint “hands-on” the new slide for the refurbished playground.

talk organization
“Genealogical Organization – Paper and Digital Filing Systems” will be the topic at Linn Genealogical Society’s monthly Program Meeting at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Albany Public Library Meeting Room, 2450 14th Ave. SE.
Speaker Susan Fischer Copple will discuss methods of documenting and storing paper and digital records. She will provide guides and examples of document filing that make sense and are easy to maintain.
Learn how to use color-coding for paper systems, and to use the same method for folders on your computer. There are many different types of filing systems used, so it is important to discover what works for you.
Copple, who has lived in Sweet Home for 25 years, is owner of Rainshadow Genealogy and is a fourth-generation Oregonian.

Lunchtime garden talk on decorating
“Crafts, Gifts and Decorating from the Garden” will be the topic at the September class of the Lebanon Second Monday Lunchtime Gardening Series, from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at The Lobby coffee shop, 661 S. Main St.
Trudie Bason, of the Lebanon Garden Club, will be presenting.
The event is offered by Oregon State University Extension and the Lebanon Garden Club. Classes are free. The public is welcome.

Women’s dinner on ‘Healthy Habits’
After 5 Connection will host a women’s dinner and special program on “Healthy Habits” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at The Lobby, 661 S. Main St. in Lebanon.
Angie Frederic, a registered dietician from Samaritan Health Services, will share information on how to replace unhealthy habits with new, healthy ones. When it comes to eating, people have strong habits, some good and some not so good.
Although many eating habits were established during childhood, it doesn’t mean it’s too late to change them.
Guest speaker Nancy Gabert from Bend, a certified residential appraiser and dramatist who has written and performed in dramas and skits for many years, will speak on “What’s In Your Backpack?” Gabert will offer help in letting go of the past and moving forward in life with freedom and passion.
The $10 cost includes dinner. Credit cards cannot be accepted. All are welcome.

Lebanon chorus seeks singers
Lebanon Community Chorus is seeking singers for its 2019 Winter Season.
Registration will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, followed by rehearsal at 7 p.m. in the choir room at Lebanon High School, 1700 S. Fifth St. Registration will also be held Sept. 19 and 26. All singers 18 and older – regardless of experience – are welcome to join the LCC. Younger singers, with approval of the director, are also accepted. For more than 50 years the choir has included singers from all over Linn County and beyond.
Dues are $20.
Kevin Wong will direct the LCC this season in a program blending classical compositions with international flavors and seasonal favorites.
John Rutter’s “Magnificat” will be the featured work, followed by the unique “International Carol Suites,” music that weaves together familiar and lesser-known carols in a thrilling and multicultural celebration of the season.
Winter season rehearsals will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. each Thursday evening in the LHS choir room; additional rehearsals will be scheduled on the Tuesday evenings following Thanksgiving.
The winter concert is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in the high school auditorium.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Sept. 6, is Santa Fe chicken or turkey club mini salad over spinach romaine, potato onion soup, whole wheat roll and pears.
The menu on Monday, Sept. 9, is orange glazed chicken or pork choppie with gravy, whipped sweet potatoes, green beans with red peppers, wheat bread and apple cobbler.
The menu on Tuesday, Sept. 10, is barbecued smokehouse chop or herbed chicken patty with gravy, Delmonico potatoes, green peas, French bread and fresh orange.
Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
