New art on display at Albany gallery
Fiber artist Pat Spark and watercolorist Susan Bourdet are the featured artists through Oct. 24 at Gallery Calapooia, 222 First Ave. West in downtown Albany.
The First Friday virtual reception, from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, will feature the work of Spark and Bourdet, as well as 19 other Mid-Valley artists. The reception can be accessed at http://www.facebook.com/gallerycalapooia.
Spark has kept busy during the pandemic taking tutorials and workshops. The products of these are the basis for her new work. In one technique, Shibori felting, fabric is bound or clamped, then subjected to water, soap and agitation to complete the felting process. The bound areas are pushed together, creating three dimensional wool felt. She will be showing shibori felt as well as many fall accessories created during the last six months.
Bourdet’s nature paintings are known for spontaneous, free-flowing background passages and delicate details. Each watercolor is pulled from her own experience. She attempts to capture and share a moment with her viewer.
She loves to use light to freeze that moment in time – maybe the instant before flight, or the sudden flash of color when the sun catches a bird’s eye.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and by appointment. Gallery Calapooia is a nonprofit organization and donations to it are tax-deductible.
