A meeting for those interested in helping to plan a lighted night parade for “Home Sweet Home for Christmas” will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the chamber, 1575 Main St.

Foster Dam Road
closed Sept. 10, 15
Foster Dam Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 10, for an underwater survey of the fish research equipment on the dam.
The road will also be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, so the fish weir can be lowered to winter pool levels.

Tomato/Salsa Fest
this Saturday
Timeless Gardens in Lebanon will hold its annual Tomato and Salsa Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at 33527 Brewster Road.
In addition to displays of fused glass jewlery, goatsmilk soaps and baby goats, fresh-baked goodies, handmade textiles and more, the event includes demonstrations of salsa making and tomato sampling.
Also, Original Salsa and Biggest Tomato contests will be held.

Women’s Bible
studies to begin
A community-wide women’s Bible study entitled “Hosea: Unfailing Love Changes Everything,” with Jennifer Rothchild will begin Sept. 14.
Open to all women, the course includes video presentations, discussion groups, and homework. There is no charge, but optional study guides are available for minimal purchase at host churches.
This study is being sponsored by the Mid-Valley Women of Christ. Women may register now through the website, http://www.midvalleywomenofchrist.org.

Meeting to discuss bus schedules
Linn Shuttle will hold a public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Sweet Home to discuss raising the number of bus routes offered by the service from six to seven per day.
The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Sweet Home Senior Center East Dining Room. It will also include discussion of schedule changes for the in-town Sweet Home Shopper bus.
The Linn Shuttle proposal would be to maintain the two morning routes and the final daily route from Sweet Home to Albany and back as they are, but add an additional route to those in between to decrease wait times in the late morning and early afternoon.

Tomato Day in Lebanon
The public is invited to admire, taste, and stock up on tomatoes at the Lebanon Downtown Farmers Market on Tomato Day, from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 at the corner or Grant and Main streets.
Lisa Almarode of Fairweather Farm will give tastings of dozens of unusual and often beautiful tomato varieties from her garden. Oregon State Extension Master Food Preserver Linda Ziedrich will offer information on drying tomatoes and canning them—whole or in pieces, as pizza or spaghetti sauce, as ketchup, as juice, as Mexican-style salsa, and even as marmalade or preserves.
SHARC Showdown set for Sept. 26
The Second Annual SHARC Showdown is accepting registration and selling advance tickets at The New Era, 1313 Main St., and Chamber of Commerce, 1575 Main St.
The show is a benefit by the Sweet Home Auditorium Remodel Committee for Sweet Home performing arts and to improve the the Sweet Home High School auditorium.
The talent contest begins at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 in the high school auditorium, 1641 Long St. A barbecue chicken dinner runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
Combination dinner-show tickets are available for $10 until Sept. 18. After that, dinner costs $10, and the show costs $5. The show is $3 for students and free for children under 7 years old.
Volunteer organizer Shirley Austin said that the previous SHARC event had such a great response that dinner sold out. She urges people to buy tickets early to avoid being left out.

Antique appraisals available Oct. 10
The Sweet Home Chapter of the PEO is inviting people to “Antiques in the Afternoon,” an opportunity to have antiques, fine art and personal property appraised.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Sunshine Industries, 1333 Clark Mill Road. Seating is limited, so a reservation is required. A reservation costs $25 and includes appraisal of one item by Gary Germer, a Portland area appraiser.
Light refreshments will be served.
Proceeds from the event support PEO college scholarships for women.

Lebanon Choir
recruiting singers
The Lebanon Community Chorus is recruiting singers for its annual classical winter concert for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, at the First Assembly of God church in Lebanon.
Rehearsals are at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church at 3111 South Main in Lebanon. They are held at 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
Colin Salisbury will direct his first classical concert featuring the Faure’ “Requiem” in one half and holiday music in the other half including selections such as “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” “Variations on Deck the Halls,” and a “Wreath of Carols.”
Colin was co-director of the successful spring pops concert last April.
All singers are welcome with no auditions required. Singers will pay $15 dues to participate, with limited scholarships available.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Sept. 11, is turkey patty or pork choppie, both with gravy.
The menu for Monday, Sept. 14, is rotisserie chicken or German meatballs, garlic whipped potatoes, cabbage and carrots, rye bread and apple harvest cake.
The menu for Tuesday, Sept. 15, is shaved turkey or meatloaf sandwich half on wheat bread, corn chowder, country coleslaw and mixed fruit cup.
