Arrested boy in gun case named

A 15-year-old boy arrested Jan. 28 after he allegedly brought a firearm to school at Sweet Home High School has been identified, officially.

The boy has been identified by Linn County Juvenile Department Director Torri Lynn as Andy Sharber. He was scheduled to appear in court Feb. 13.

Sweet Home Police officers responded to the school on the morning of Jan. 28 after staff informed officers and detectives that a student had reported concerns regarding another student.

After an investigation, they determined that a 15-year-old male student had brought a gun, which Chief Jeff Lynn described as “derringer-style,” to school and showed other students.

As the high school went into lockdown, officers and school staff located Sharber in a high school classroom and detained him, and seized a firearm, which was removed from school property, police said. Sharber was transported to Linn County Juvenile Department custody on charges of possession of a firearm in a public building, unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

Anyone with further information is encouraged to call the Sweet Home Police Department to speak with our detectives,” Lynn said. Police may be reached at (541) 367-5181.
