The Husky softball team selected Ashley Severns as its most valuable player.
Amanda Burcham was named most inspirational player, and Burcham and Kaci Trask were named most improved players during the program’s awards dessert held on May 30.
Earning letters were Natalie Bate, Jessica Brocard, Burcham, Crystal Fowler, Laci Gaskey, Katie Ives, Teresea Lewis, Tiffany Martinez, Severns, Nicole Starha, Trask, Heather Wall and Mahria Zook.
Named to the Capital Conference first team were Severns, a senior, unanimously for infield and Brocard, a senior, for outfield.
Wall and Trask, both juniors were named to the second team for pitching and infield respectively.
The team finished with a 9-16 season record and a 3-9 league record.
“The Huskies always competed well, losing five league contests by one run and eight games by two runs or less,” Coach Rob Younger said. “The team peaked in the last two weeks of the season, playing especially well in the league playoffs against Cascade and Molalla.
“The team improved each week, showing outstanding team commitment, work ethic and attitude. This team was a very cohesive unit led by seniors Jessica Brocard and Ashley Severns (who had four years on varsity). (Both) will leave a large void for next year’s team to fill.”
Defensively, the Huskies were led by Wall with a 2.1 earned run average.
“Amanda Burcham improved every game and was oustanding in leading the pitcher corp from her catcher’s position,” Coach Younger said. “Ashley Severns played oustanding defense from her second base position as she concluded her career with only four errors in 43 league contests.”
Offensively, the Huskies were led by Severns, .395 league; Trask, .354 league; Martinez, .333 league; Fowler, .318; and Wall, .303.
