Growth and perseverance are the name of the game for Sweet Home Volleyball as they nabbed back to back wins against North Marion and Stayton. Head Coach Mary Hutchins said it took some time to build steam against North Marion before the Huskies took three sets and claimed victory. Hutchins noted the team’s struggles with serve receive during the matchup on October 3rd.
Head Coach Hutchins wanted to shore up the team’s serve receive heading into their game against higher-ranked Stayton last Thursday. An hour practicing their serve receive before the game paid off not just with a win, but with what Hutchins called ” some of the best” SR work done by the team all year.
Facing down “three very consistent hitters” from the Stayton side, defense played a central role in the Huskies’ winning strategy, according to Hutchins. She also praised the team for their dedication and focus amid the flurry of Homecoming festivities.
The team’s two wins leave no time to slow down. Hutchins is focused on what the team can do to grow. Where she saw room to improve against Stayton: serving. The team will have had a chance to show off what they’ve learned against Cascade High School on Tuesday. The Huskies take their skills on the road this Thursday, where they’ll face Newport High School on the Cubs’ turf at 6:30pm.
