Barreto wins Pineway Tournament

Tim Barreto started the second round of the Pineway Men’s Club Championship tournament tied for fourth place, seven strokes behind the leader Aug. 20.

Birdies on four out of the first five holes jump-started the only sub-par round shot in the entire tournament. Barreto won the tournament by one stroke over Jason Champion, and two ahead of former University of Oregon golfer Joel Stock, who finished third. Pat Gutridge shot 168 to claim the Senior Division title.

Bob Anderson shot the low gross score in the first flight for the second straight year, while his brother Dick Anderson had the low net score. Second flight low gross winner was Arlie Elliott, and Bill Shipman took low net.

The players with the 10 lowest scores on Aug. 19 qualified to play in the annual Horse Race Sunday afternoon, a modified match-play game in which the player with the highest score on each hole is eliminated. Dan Flores finished strong, scoring birdies on each of the last three holes to win.

Robby Allen, Jr. took second, and Pete Burleson finished third.
