Dave Barringer has been selected as the new chief of the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance Disrict.
Dawn Mitchell, president of the SHFAD Board of Directors, said this week that an offer has been made and accepted by Barringer, who formerly worked for SHAFAD before taking a job with the Albany Fire Department, where he is an acting lieutenant.
Barringer, a Sweet Home resident, was one of five finalists, who appeared at a meet-and-greet session at the Elks Lodge on March 16. The others were Guy Smith, a battalion chief with SHFAD; Jay Curless of Oak Grove, Mo.; Mike Green of Tomasket, Wash; and Jim Price of Baker City.
Mitchell said the offer is contingent on Barringer passing physical and background checks required by SHFAD policy.
She noted that the meet-and-greet wasn’t a true open house for the public and that a public open house will be held once the new chief is in place to take over for current Chief Mike Beaver, who is retiring in June.
