Sweet Home baseball couldn’t put much pressure on conference-leading Stayton last week, losing 8-0 at home on Wednesday.
The loss put the Huskies at 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the 4A-3 Oregon West Conference. Sweet Home is tied with Cascade for last place in the conference.
Stayton (15-4) scored five runs in the first inning, and one apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. They outhit the Huskies 6-2 and committed no errors to Sweet Home’s two.
Huston Holly started the game on the mound for the Huskies. He pitched four innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits. Holly struck out one and walked one.
Hunter Ashby pitched one and two thirds innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits while walking four. Lewis Conn pitched one and one third inning, giving up no earned runs or hits. He struck out two and walked one.
Sweet Home’s two hits, both singles, were struck by Jacob Sieminski and Lewis Conn.
Sweet Home’s scheduled home game vs. Tillamook on Friday was canceled due to rain.
The Huskies host a doubleheader versus Newport (14-3) on Wednesday, May 4, with games at 3 and 5 p.m. They then play host to the Cubs again on Thursday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m.
