Elmira 10, 9
Sweet Home 9, 3
Despite a tough first-game effort, the Huskies lost a doubleheader 10-9 and 9-3 at Elmira on April 9.
“This one was back and forth,” Coach Dan Tow said of the first game. “We had a couple big hits. Brian Lindsay is starting to swing the bat well, and he did a nice job today.
“We had a good shot at this one, but in the end, we came up a little short. We certainly had our chances in this one.”
The Huskies scored one run to open the game. Elmira went ahead 4-1 at the bottom of one but added three runs in the second to tie the game 4-4. Elmira went ahead by two in the third inning. The Huskies pounded in five runs in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead. Elmira tied in the bottom of the inning and went ahead in the sixth.
Lindsay led at bats, going 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Mark Lewis went 2-3. Travis Smith went 1-2 with a solo homerun. Lance Carter went 1-3.
Lance Carter picked up the loss pitching in relief for Kyle Pettit.
In the second game, “I thought Adam Hummer did a pretty good job on the mound,” Coach Tow said. “We committed a couple of costly errors in the fourth, and then they broke it open. If we make those plays, it’s a different ball game.
“We had some kids hit the ball and do some good things. We just need to quit shooting ourselves in the foot.”
Hummer was losing pitcher. Brandon Martin and Smith pitched in relief.
At bats, Lindsay went 2-4. Chris Kelley went 1-2 with two RBIs. Smith hit a double. Jeremy Bate, Joe Ellis and Jesse Aitken each singled.

Molalla defeated the Huskies 6-2 at home on April 5.
“We just couldn’t get much going offensively,” Coach Tow said. “We made some mistakes on the bases and hurt ourselves that way.
“I felt like we didn’t swing the bats like we’re capable of. It was just one of those nights where we never got anything going.”
Martin went 2-4 with two doubles to lead the Huskies at the plate. Matt Morneault and Lindsay each went 1-2. Lewis went 1-4.
Kyle Pettit started. Carter received the loss pitching in relief.
