Sweet Home baseball started the season off 1-3 in its first week of action.
After its first game against Molalla was rained out in the bottom of the fourth, Sweet Home baseball played its first full contest at home against Elmira on March 16, losing 21-8.
The score was 5-2 Elmira after two innings, but then the Falcons put together a seven run effort in the third to go up 12-2.
Sweet Home answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third and three in the fourth to bring the score to 12-7, but Elmira exploded for nine runs in the fifth.
Sweet Home’s answer of only one run in the bottom of the inning ended the game early via the 10-run rule, 21-8.
Each team had five hits. The Husky defense committed seven errors while Elmira had only two.
Sophomore Nathan Aker started the game on the mound, pitching two innings and giving up two earned runs while recording two strikeouts.
Lewis Conn came in in relief, giving up nine earned runs in two innings while recording two strikeouts.
Hunter Ashby pitched one inning, gave up one earned run, and recorded one strike out.
Caleb Christman, Russ Holly, Dylan Luttmer, Josh Wilson and Kaden Zajic each recorded a hit in the game. Luttmer had two RBIs, while Christman and Zajic each had one.
The next day on the road, Sweet Home gave up a big lead to fall to Junction City 13-10. The Huskies were up 10-2 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, before the Tigers came alive for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.
After holding Sweet Home scoreless in the fifth, Junction City tied the ball game 10-10 in the bottom of the fifth. Three more Tiger runs in the bottom of the sixth secured the 13-10 Junction City victory. Junction City outhit the Huskies 12-8 in the game.
Russ Holly pitched the first four innings while Huston Holly pitched two.
Huston Holly, Zajic, and Jake Seiminski each had two hits for the Huskies, while Weld and Russ Holly each added one.
Weld had three RBIs while Zajic and Seiminski each had two. Luttmer added one.
In the first day of play at the Hidden Valley Tournament, Sweet Home beat Glide 12-8 but later lost to Brookings-Harbor 10-0.
