Baseball team loses final three regular-season games

North Marion 7, Sweet Home 1

The Husky baseball team lost its final regular season game Monday night at home 7-1 to North Marion.

“We really couldn’t get a lot going on offense tonight, and they got some hits when they needed them,” Coach Dan Tow said. “We helped them with a few miscues, but (pitcher Kyle) Miller really held us in check.”

Adam Hummer started for the Huskies. Robby Wallace and Kyle Pettit pitched in relief, Wallace collecting the loss.

Miller was winning pitcher. Trevor Ingle pitched in relief.

“Adam (Hummer) threw three very good innings tonight,” Tow said.

At bat, Trevor Tagle went 2-3; Hummer, 1-3; and Joe Ellis, 1-3.

The Huskies have at least one more game, against the fourth-place conference team Molalla, at 2 p.m. Friday at Cascade. The winner will play Cascade at 5 p.m.

Stayton 8, Sweet Home 6

The Huskies fought their way out of an early deficit at Stayton on May 11 but ultimately lost the game 8-6.

“They really ripped the ball early and scored a bunch of runs,” Tow said. “But our kids battled back and tied it in the fifth (6-6).

“We hit the ball fairly well, and (Kyle) Pettit settled in and threw well after the second inning.

“I thought our kids showed some character and battled hard.”

Pettit was losing pitcher. Campbell started for Stayton and collected the win. Lackner and Stoyles pitched in relief.

At bat, Pettit went 2-4 with a homerun. Ellis went 1-3 with an RBI. Skyler Bascom went 2-3 with a homerun. Brett Miller went 2-2 with an RBI.

Stoyles hit a two-run homerun for Stayton.

Cascade 15, Sweet Home 8

In a May 4 slugfest at home, the Huskies lost a 7-2 lead to Cascade, which ended up winning 15-8.

“This was a slugfest,” Tow said. “Both teams hammered the ball. They just did it better than we did.”

Hummer was starting pitcher. Pettit was losing pitcher. Wallace and Hummer also pitched in relief.

Jerris Van Hess was winning pitcher.

At bat, Greg Sipe went 2-3 with two RBIs. Bascom went 2-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Hummer went 204 with a double and an RBI. Pettit went 2-4 with a double. Miller went 1-2 with two RBIs.
