Sweet Home 13, Jefferson 11
The Huskies baseball team defeated Jefferson 13-11 in the first half of a doubleheader at home on Saturday.
Jefferson jumped out to an early lead, 7-1 after two innings, but the Huskies put together six runs to tie in the third through fifth innings. A four-run sixth inning put Jefferson back on top, but the Huskies answered with six of their own runs in the bottom.
“We were down big early in this one,” Coach Dan Tow said. “The kids came back and tied it, got back down by four and then came back again and won it. We showed a lot of determination.
“Steven Bidwell had a big hit to knock in the go-ahead run and an insurance run. Levi (Marchbanks) did a great job driving in four runs.”
At bat, J.P. Williams went 3-5 with a triple and two runs. Marchbanks went 2-4 with four RBIs. Bidwell went 2-4 with two RBIs. Shelby Johnston went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Brock Cota went 2-3 with three runs.
Diaz led Jefferson in hitting with two doubles and a triple. He also was starting pitcher. Miller relieved him.
Greg Sipe was starting pitcher for the Huskies. Johnston and Williams pitched in relief. Williams earned the win.
“For a game with so many runs and hits, we really played decent defense,” Tow said.

The Huskies dominated the second half of the doubleheader, winning 14-5.
“We had a lot of guys really swing the bats well today,” Tow said. “Levi and J.P. really had big days at the plate, and they both pitched well too.
“J.P. actually ended up being credited with both wins today. That doesn’t happen very often.
“We did a nice job throwing out several base runners and executing some pickoffs and rundowns. I thought Levi did a really nice job behind the plate.”
The Huskies scored four runs each in the first and second inning to build an 8-0 lead. Jefferson knocked in four runs in the third, but the Huskies added two more to build an insurmountable 10-4 lead.
At bat, Marchbanks went 4-4 with a double and three RBIs. Williams went 3-3 with two doubles, four runs and one RBI. Brad Valloni went 2-3. Cota went 1-2 with three RBIs. Dustin Horn went 1-4 with three RBIs.

Sweet Home 15, Willamette JV 3
The Huskies defeated the Willamette junior varsity 15-3 in Eugene on Thursday.
“This was a good tune-up game for us,” Tow said. “It was good just to get a game in during a stretch of bad weather.
“Willamette played us with their JV team, and we appreciated them giving us a chance to play a game. We’ve had a lot of rainouts.”
At bat, Bidwell, Sipe and Valloni each had three hits. Cota, Marchbanks and Horn each had two hits.
Greg Sipe was the starting and winning pitcher. Johnston and Williams pitched in relief.
Cannazaro was starting and losing pitcher. Fike, Wright and Schenfeld pitched in relief.
“I thought Shelby Johnston really pitched well, and our infield played really well defensively,” Tow said.
