For The New Era
More than 75 Sweet Home Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Community Volunteers braved the early morning frosty temperatures Saturday, November 20 and participated in the 2004 Scouting for Food. The following Sweet Home area Scouting Units represented were: Pack 362, 363, 367,395, Scout Troops 362, 372, 395 and the newly formed Venture Crew 372.
This is the second year in which a friendly and fun competition between Duck fans and Beaver fans helped to motivate support for Scouting for Food. Volunteers enjoyed loading designated “Duck Food” and “Beaver Food” onto roughly decorated themed trucks, with one truck sporting black balloons and orange streamers and the other adorning yellow balloons and streamers of green.
The Beaver fans seized an early lead within minutes of the official start of the food drive, and quickly set the pace bringing Beaver fans a foretaste of victory with 2,160 pounds of food collected. The Duck fans did make a valiant attempt with their efforts and tipped the scale with 860 pounds of donations. Combined efforts brought the total weight collected for SHEM to 3,020 pounds of donations, an increase of 40 pounds over the previous year.
Helping with the Scouting for Food event is a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn that their continued service to others can make a difference in countless lives. No act of kindness is ever insignificant. A big thank you to our “Special Teams” providing event support including the following: Holley Store, Crawfordsville Market, LinMar Enterprises, LLC, Mr. Merv Hanscam, KFIR, and The New Era.
For all the disappointed Duck Fans out there, well, there’s always next year to get your game plan figured out!
GO BEAVERS!
