Bette Talbot

Bette Elaine Talbot, 85, of Gresham and formerly of Sweet Home died Aug. 15, 2011.

She was born March 9, 1926 in Saguache, Colo., to Clarence and Hattie (Carson) Means. She was the youngest and only surviving of five children.

She graduated from high school in Durango, Colo., in 1944. She sang in glee club and played the cello in orchestra.

Mrs. Talbot attended Fort Lewis A&M and also worked for a time in Wyoming as a linotype operator for the railroad.

In May 1946, she married Leonard Earl Zink. Two children, Barbara and Patrick, were born to them.

In July 1961, she married Dale J. Talbot in Escondido, Calif. They had one daughter, Shari.

In 1973 and 1974, Mrs. Talbot worked hard on the San Diego Grand Jury. In 1976, she moved to Sweet Home with Mr. Talbot and Shari.

During her stay in Sweet Home, Mrs. Talbot attended classes at LBCC, worked as an advertising sales rep for The New Era Publishing Co. She was secretary for the Sweet Home Transportation Safety Committee. She was active in the Sweet Home Garden Club, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, DAR, the John Birch Society and the Republican Party.

Mrs. Talbot is survived by daughters, Barbara and Shari; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Dale, in 1979 and son, Patrick, in 2009.

Viewing will be 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel and 12 p.m. on Aug. 29 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sweet Home. A funeral service will follow the viewing at 1 p.m.
