Betty Lawrence Steward

April 28, 1931 — Aug. 25, 2015

Betty was born in Beaverton to Percy and Virginia Lawrence.

She graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1949 and married R. Joe Steward in 1951. They had two daughters, Cathy and Carol.

She lived in Coos Bay, where she commercially fished the Betty Jean alongside Joe.

Betty was a steadfast mother and homemaker. She enjoyed passing the tradition of canning to both daughters and great-grandsons Mason and Blake Linton. She recently taught them how to can green beans.

With great pride she thoroughly enjoyed each grandson, Travis and Lyle Linton, and she adored their wives, Kari and Michelle.

Betty proudly watched granddaughter Rebecca graduate from the University of Portland, becoming a registered nurse, and looked forward to hearing the whistle of her husband Deontay’s train.

She is survived by daughters Cathy and Dennis Carmody and Carol Steward; grandchildren Travis and Kari Linton, Lyle and Michelle Linton, and Rebecca and Deontay Boris; and great-grandsons Mason and Blake Linton. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Nation, sharing a unique and special bond with her; brother-in-law Doug Steward; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; and brother Jack Lawrence.

A celebration of life was held Sept. 12, at the Corvallis Elks Lodge, 1400 N.W. Ninth St., Corvallis.

Donations may be made to the Elks Lodge or a charity of one’s choice.
