Betty Vee Young, 98, a longtime resident of Sweet Home, passed away Sunday July 31, 2022, at the Lebanon Veteran’s Home.
She was born Aug. 3, 1923 in Anaheim, Calif., to Harvey Elmer and Mildred (Moody) Moulton.
Betty married Parke Howard Young on Sept. 5, 1942 in Paris, Texas. She and Parke lived in several cities in Southern California while raising their two sons.
Upon their retirement in 1976, they moved to Sweet Home, where they built their retirement home overlooking Foster Lake.
Over the course of her life, Mrs. Young was involved as a Campfire Girl leader, a voting precinct operator, was an original member of the provisional governing council of Adair Village, taught sewing for Singer Sewing Company, owned and operated a rhododendron nursery, and taught piano lessons for many years.
Mrs. Young was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was involved with much compassionate service through their women’s organization.
She also enjoyed genealogical research.
She especially enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, calligraphy, archery, camping, fishing, shopping, genealogy, and spending time with family and friends.
Betty was an accomplished pianist.
Betty is survived by her son, Stephen and daughter-in-law, Beth Young; daughter-in-law, Bernice Young; sister Judy Moulton; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Parke Howard Young; son James Young; sister Joyce Applebury; and one great-grandson, Cooper Merrifield.
Funeral services were held Aug. 8, with final burial at Gilliland Cemetery.
