Beverly Shaver

Beverly Ann “Bev” Shaver, 86, of Sweet Home died Oct. 21, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 1, 1929 in Madison, Wis. to John and Lorraine (Lickel) Heffron, the eldest of two children. Her family moved to California in 1943 and settled in the Los Angeles area.

She graduated from Saint Monica’s High School 1948 and during her junior and senior years was captain of the girls’ basketball team. She was also named Best All-Around Player.

In 1954 she married Robert “Bob” G. Shaver. They made their home in Capistrano Beach, Calif., where they raised their five children. Retiring in Sweet Home in 1983, Mrs. Shaver spent her time fishing with Bob, enjoying her grandchildren, cooking, bird watching, and making crafts. She is also remembered for her feisty, competitive nature in her bowling league and playing spirited card games with her family.

Mrs. Shaver is survived by her sons, John, David and Robert Shaver; daughters Tracy Lapham and Mary Cope; sister Rosemary Dorazio; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2007.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute (WVCI)

A memorial Mass was held Oct. 27 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Sweet Home. A reception followed.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
