Sweet Home Bi-Mart opens Thursday at 9 a.m.

“We’ve got a grand opening circular that’s coming out in your newspaper Wednesday,” said Don Leber, director of advertising and marketing. That’s eight pages, and each day through the weekend the new store will give away 500 or more items.

On Thursday, the first 700 through the doors will receive an Oregon State University hat, Leber said. Friday, the store will give away a Blazers T-shirt. Saturday, it’s a Sweet Home High School hat, and Sunday, it’s an Oregon State T-shirt.

The grand opening ad is only effective at Sweet Home Bi-Mart, Leber said. The first week will be a sort of open house where members of the public can visit and shop without a membership card and take advantage of grand opening specials.

Through Wednesday, anyone signing up for a membership card or transferring their membership to the new store will receive a free bag of Cosmos.

Members also will be eligible for Lucky Number Tuesday, Leber said. Each year, Bi-Mart gives away $900,000 worth of products.

At least once every 10 weeks, every member can win a small prize worth $2 to $5, Leber said. About 10 win items worth $75 to $100 each week, and one member wins a prize worth up to several hundred dollars.

Construction “went really well,” Leber said. “The weather slowed us down a bit when we had the snow and ice. Everything else went really well.”

The store will employ probably more than 50 people, Leber said. The majority of them are full time.

This is the 75th Bi-Mart location, Leber said. The company has stores in Oregon, Washington and western Idaho.

It is celebrating its 60th anniversary and its 10th anniversary as an employee-owned business, he said.
