Billie Denver-Hayes

Billie Denver-Hayes, 78, of Lebanon, died Nov. 24, 2006 at her home.

She was born Aug. 17, 1928 in Kelseyville, Calif., the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Chewning) Eads. The family moved to Baker City when she was an infant and resided there until moving to Sweet Home in 1947. She married Don Denver in 1948.

They moved to Lebanon in 1962, where they raised two sons. They divorced in 1984. Billie then married Elmer Hayes in 1996. He preceded her in death in April 2003.

Mrs. Denver-Hayes graduated from Oregon State University with a master’s degree in elementary education.

She taught six years in the Crowfoot School District, and 27 years in the Greater Albany Public Schools. She retired in 1986.

She was an avid reader; books were her joy. She also enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Lebanon Moose Lodge.

She is survived by her sons, Keith and his wife Denise of Denver, Colo., and Dennis and his wife Joyce of Lebanon; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen Wright, Robin Strubhar and LaNae Conley; brother, Harry Eads; and stepdaughters, Cathy Mudrow and Carol Buller.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Wendell Eads and sisters, Marian Anderson and Kathryn Buxton.
