St. Francis Episcopal Church is sponsoring a blood drive from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 4 at the Evangelical Church, 1347 Long St.
The American Red Cross Pacific Northwest Regional Blood Services announced last week it is nearing critical levels of its type O-negative blood supply and concerning levels of types A-negative and B-negative.
The Red Cross urges donors with any blood type to schedule an appointment to donate blood. A blood transfusion is needed every two seconds, and in the Pacific Northwest, at least 5,000 units of blood must be collected each week to serve patient needs.
The onset of warmer weather brings a drought to the Red Cross. While more persons are out enjoying the sunshine, fewer are stepping forward to donate blood. This is also a time when the need for blood often increases as people hit the highways on vacation. The Red Cross asks donors not to take a vacation from giving “the gift of life.”
To be eligible to five blood, individuals must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 105 pounds and be in generally good health. To make an appointment to donate blood, persons should call Nancy Slauson at 367-8188.
