Bonita Poissot-Harris

Feb. 9, 1947 – April 30, 2011

Bonita “Bonii” Poissot-Harris, 64, died April 30, 2011.

She was born Feb. 9, 1947 in Lebanon to William and Aileen (White) Hance and was raised in Sweet Home.

She graduated from Sweet Home High School and attended University of Oregon, Marylhurst University, Oregon State University and Linn Benton Community College. She worked and volunteered at KidCo Head Start and taught child development classes at Linn Benton Community College.

She enjoyed helping others as the volunteer coordinator for the Crisis Service, was a master gardener for Linn and Benton counties, and a crafter and booth member at the Oregon Country Fair for over 25 years. She married Richard Harris 33 years ago on Jan. 14, 1978.

Mrs. Harris was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, cousin, aunt, grandmother, godmother, co-worker, care-giver and friend. She was an avid gardener, collector, reader and crafter, enjoyed camping and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She was a supporter of Guan Yin and a follower of the Baha’i Faith. Her free and unique spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Harris of Sweet Home; brother Bill Hance of Eugene; son K.C. and daughter-in-law Charleene Poissot; daughter Faith and son-in-law Travis Branson; five grandchildren; and numerous godchildren.

A graveside service is planned at 2 p.m. Wednesday May 4, at Gilliland Cemetery.

Donations can be made in her memory to Samaritan Hospice.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
