Boys 10-run Elmira twice on Saturday

The Huskies crushed Elmira under the 10-run rule twice, 16-6 and 10-0, on Saturday at home.

Elmira built a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Sweet Home answered with a pair of runs while Elmira added another two in the second.

The Huskies broke loose in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs. They added two more in the third and six more in the fourth, with the game ending after the Falcons scored just one more run, in the third.

“The Sweet Home bats exploded with 14 hits in four innings,” said Coach Mat Matuszak. T.J. Sipe started on the mound and gave up no earned runs earning the win. He gave up three hits, walked one and struck out two batters in two innings. Jeremy White pitched two innings in relief, giving up three walks. Cory Hanks pitched one inning. Rodriguez started for Elmira and received the loss.

Brock Cota led the Huskies at the plate, going 3-3 with a double, four RBI and three runs.

Tyler Holly went 2-3 with a double and three runs. Levi Marchbanks went 2-3 with three RBI and a run. Andrew Winslow went 2-4 with an RBI and a run.

Jamie Steinbacher went 1-1 with an RBI and a run. Sipe went 1-3 with an RBI and two runs. Zach Miller went 1-3 with two RBI. Drayson Scott went 1-1 with a run. Gavin Kauffman went 1-2 with a double, two RBI and four runs.

In the second game, Sweet Home pitchers combined for a no hitter.

Marchbanks threw the first two innings, earning the win. Miller and Cota pitched in relief. Keegal started and received the loss for Elmira.

Miller recorded four strike-outs, and Cota struck out one batter. The three pitchers gave up five walks.

The Huskies took an 8-0 lead in the first inning.

David Deggelman led Sweet Home at bat, going 2-3 with two doubles, three RBI and one run. Kauffman went 2-3 with two RBI and one run. Winslow went 2-3.

Colton Holly went1-2 with an RBI and a run. Tyler Holly went 1-1 with two runs and an RBI. Steinbacher had one RBI. Cota and Nate Melcher each had a run.

The Huskies are 7-6 overall and 2-2 in league.

Newport 6, Sweet Home 2

Sweet Home lost 6-2 on the road to Newport on April 16.

“Newport scored three in the first and never looked back against Sweet Home on Friday evening,” Matuszak said. “Sweet Home struggled at the plate as Logan Goins started and went six strong innings pitched for Newport.”

Kauffman pitched two innings, striking out two batters, walking one and giving up four hits and three earned runs. C. Holly pitched four innings in relief, giving up three hits, one earned run and four walks. He threw six strikeouts.

Goins struck out nine Sweet Home batters in six innings, giving up two earned runs, six hits and one walk. Tristan Metcalf pitched one inning for Newport, striking out two and walking one.

Winslow and Kauffman each went 2-3. Marchbanks went 1-3 with an RBI. T. Holly went 1-1 with a run. Wade Pauls had a run.

Goins led the Cubs at bat, going 3-4 with two RBI and two runs.
