After the first day of the Special District 2 golf championship tournaments Monday, May 7, the Sweet Home boys were in second place, behind league powerhouse Stayton and eight strokes ahead of Cascade at Tokatee.
The girls were fourth as a team, 14 shots out of third at Santiam Golf Club. Haley May was third overall, with an 85 after the first day of play.
The top three teams and any individuals in the top five who haven’t qualified with a team will go to the state championships next Monday and Tuesday.
For the boys, freshman Brayden Keesee led the team with an 84, good for fourth overall, and senior Jake Hindmarsh was fifth overall with an 88.
A full report of the district championships will be included in next week’s edition, as The New Era went to press as Tuesday’s district action began.
