Boys basketball: Huskies take 3A team Pleasant Hill to wire before falling in overtime

On Friday, Sweet Home boys basketball lost a close overtime game to Pleasant Hill, a team ranked no. 5 in the state in 3A. The Billies beat the Huskies 58-56 in Sweet Home, moving to 11-1 on the season while the Huskies fell to 1-10.

Pleasant Hill was up 29-22 at halftime before the Huskies clawed back into the game, winning the third quarter 14-11 to push the score to 40-36 Pleasant Hill. By the end of regulation, the Huskies had tied the game, and their defense held the Billies from scoring in one last possession, sending the game to overtime at a 50-50 score.

The overtime action went back and forth. At the end of the period, a last gasp three-pointer attempted by junior Nathan Aker with his team down two was blocked, and the Billies came out with the win on the road.

Sweet Home outshot the Billies 43.2% to 36.5% from the field, but struggled from three-point territory, going 3-20. They also turned the ball over more than the Billies, giving the ball away 20 times while forcing 14.

Aker led the Huskies in scoring with 23 points on 8-18 shooting. Junior Taiden Burger scored 11 points on 3-5 shooting, while senior Evan Towry pitched in for eight on 3-7 shooting.

This week the Huskies host Madras (5-5) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, before traveling to Crook County (5-6) for a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Jan. 13.
