Boys down LaPine, then get bounced at Junction City

Junction City 71,

Sweet Home 57

The Huskies had a hard time stopping the Junction City offense Friday night on the road and lost 71-57 after beating LaPine by nearly the same margin earlier in the week.

Junction City led just 15-13 after one quarter and 31-30 at halftime. The Tigers broke away in the third quarter, leading 52-40 at the end of it.

“We really just had a hard time getting a whole lot of stops,” said Coach Kostanty Knurowski. “They got into a rhythm. A lot of times the ball just bounced their direction.”

The Huskies kind of allowed Junction City to find that rhythm, he said. The effort in the game was OK, but the production wasn’t high.

Even shooting was a little cold, Knurowski said, although 57 should be enough to win a ball game.

“But we give up 71, we’re going to lose most nights,” he said.

The Huskies are in a three-way tie for second with Junction City and Sisters, each with a 3-2 record. They will have a chance to get ahead of Sisters Friday at Sisters. Cottage Grove leads the league with a 5-0 record. Elmira is 1-4, and La Pine is 0-5.

The Huskies host Cottage Grove on Tuesday next week.

Sweet Home 72, La Pine 59

The Huskies did get things going earlier in the week when they defeated La Pine on the road 72-59 on Jan. 25.

“We just kind of got to go over the mountain and come out with the win,” Knurowski said. Facing a big team, the Huskies played aggressively down low, with Kauffman and Felkins leading the way with 29 and 16 points respectively.

The Huskies trailed 21-18 after one quarter, but from there on out, they started building an insurmountable lead. The Huskies led 38-34 at halftime and 59-47 at the end of the third quarter.
