Boys & Girls Club reaps real country livin’ benefits at auction

Sweet Home community membrers bid on a variety of items during the Boys and Girls Club annual auction, above and left. Above left, participants decked out in redneck gear, the event’s theme, socialize around the silent auction tables. Executive Director Kris Latimer said that a chocolate Lab puppy provided by Rice Logging was huge, drawing $4,500. Participants paid $16,000 to bring Mike Melcher, Mike Hall and Jim Search onto stage in drag to perform their number “All About that Bass,” by Meghan Trainor, from last year’s “Switcheroo Review, which also served as a fund-raiser for the club. Attendance reached a record 335 counting the volunteers and staff. Previously, the record was about 250. The club received $41,000 in sponsorships and donations, Latimer said. “The budget for the Sweet Home building is a little over $500,000 a year now,” and the event took it more than a quarter of the way there. “It was a great night. We appreciate the entire community coming out to support our kids.” She thanked Heather Search, Wendi Melcher and their committee, including Ali Gardner, Melissa Klumph, Heather Swanson, Doug Rice and Joyce Rice.
