The Sweet Home boys soccer team faced some tough opposition earlier in the season, in Molalla and Stayton, but they found out Thursday, Sept. 27, why Central is one of the top-ranked teams in the state.
Central dominated the Huskies, winning 6-0.
“It wasn’t the greatest day, but I know why they’re ranked No. 4,” said Coach Al Grove.
The statistics told the story. The Panthers finished the game with 208 passes and 30 shots. Sweet Home finished with seven shots.
Goalie Seabas Mauer “did a very good job,” Grove said. “Their coach said this was the best game they had played.”
With the Panthers clearly in the lead in the race for the league crown this year, Sweet Home will need to get ahead of Philomath and Taft, the coach said.
The Huskies, 0-1 in league, 1-4-2 overall, host Philomath on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and travel to Taft on Thursday, Oct. 4.
