Boys lose to Creswell on home pitch

The Huskies lost 3-0 at home against Creswell in boys varsity soccer in their opening game on Friday.

Creswell led 1-0 at halftime.

About 20 minutes into the game, Creswell took advantage of a defensive hole and launched the ball from the top of the 18-yard box like a laser to the top corner, said Coach Eric Stutzer. “Defensively, we were out of position. There wasn’t any pressure on this shot, and he laced it. I made some adjustments, and we held them better up until halftime.”

Stutzer hoped to take the offense to Creswell, so he moved Matt Davis out of the goal and put in Nik Dishaw cold for the second half, freeing Nick Rodgers to boost offense.

Creswell scored a quick goal, just two minutes into the second half, Stutzer said. He takes the blame for it.

“I put him in cold to get some offensive push,” Stutzer said.

After that, the Huskies went into “protect mode,” and Stutzer moved Rodgers back into the defense.

Creswell scored again on a penalty kick about 10 minutes into the game, Stutzer said.

“I was really pleased with how (sophomore) Ramon Fry played,” Stutzer said. Most of the Huskies’ scoring opportunities came from his side on the right wing, and he had a couple of good shots, including a close header.

“(Egan) Shamek had a couple really good looks in the first half,” Stutzer said, and Rogers played a good game.

The Huskies had quality possessions, and they stayed competitive throughout the game, Stutzer said. “if we would’ve started clicking, I think we could’ve come back and made that an interesting game. We had some really great opportunities. It’s just a matter of doing what we’ve been coached to do.”
