The Huskies dominated the Douglas Trojans, winning 72-48 at home Friday evening.
“We came out strong,” said Coach Tim Porter. “I thought we came out really strong, with some defensive pressure early one and got us some baskets and a pretty good first-quarter lead.”
The Huskies led 21-7 after one quarter.
The Huskies put together two big runs, a 13-point run in the first half and a 15-point run in the third quarter.
“That’s tough to come back from for anybody,” Porter said.
The Huskies led 34-16 at halftime and 56-33 after three quarters.
Jordan Shaffer led Douglas scoring with 24 points.
“He kind of played really good in the fourth quarter,” Porter said. The Huskies put good defense on him, but he kept hitting difficult mid-range jumpers.
Bryce Daniels led scoring for the Huskies with 20 points.
The Huskies are 3-8 going into league play at home against Junction City Friday.
“I’m feeling pretty good about where we’re at,” Porter said. He thinks his team could have won a couple more in pre-league basketball, but the Huskies will be ready.
“We’re still working on fundamentals,” Porter said. “We’re working on being patient on the offensive end. I think the kids are getting more comfortable with the offense now.”
And they’re working on keeping up the pressure and boxing out on the defensive end, he said.
“It’s tough to change systems,” Porter said. “I think they’ve done a good job, and I think they’re starting to run on all cylinders.”
