Boys suspected of starting fire on Airport Road

Two boys are suspected of causing a brush fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon, July 14, in the 4600 block of Airport Road.

According to Capt. Jason Ogden, Sweet Home police officers and Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District personnel responded at approximately 5:29 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a brush fire in the 4600 block of Airport Road.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials received information that two male juveniles were running from the grassy field south of the 4600 block of Airport Road, where the fire was located.

Both boys, a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old, were located and interviewed by Sweet Home police.

The fire was quickly contained by SHFAD personnel with the assistance of ODF fire teams. The only damage to the approximately 2,000-square-foot area was to grass and shrubs, Ogden said.

He said both boys, whom police did not name, are being referred to the Linn County Juvenile Department for reckless burning.
