Sweet Home’s boys golf team played two tournaments last week, improving by 22 strokes in the space of three days.
The Huskies got back on the course April 2, after a layoff over spring break, at the first Val-Co League match, at Salishan Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach.
Taft won the team competition with a 352, followed by Newport (380), Sweet Home (406) and Central (413).
Newport’s Ross Martin was the individual medalist, shooting 78 on the par-71 course.
Taylor Huschka led the Huskies with a 92, followed by Travis Ramoz (99), Nick Zahler (100), Markus Thedford (115) and Nick Pitts (119).

At the 10-team Mollala Invitational on April 5, Sweet Home finished ninth in the team standings at Arrowhead Golf Club.
The Huskies outscored Central 384-388, with Newport finishing seventh with 372.
Camas, Wash., won the event with a score of 305, followed by The Dalles (328), Mollala No. 1 (352), St. Helens and Tillamook (357), Silverton (367), Newport, Mollalla No. 2 (380), Sweet Home and Central.
Ramoz led the Huskies with a 90, followed by Huschka (91), Zahler (99), Thedford (104) and Pitts (122). Camas’ Scott Weishaar was the individual medalist, shooting 72.
“We did play a little better,” Coach Tom Horn said of the team’s improved score at Mollala.
“We’re working hard, trying to get better. I think we’re going play better as the year goes on. We’re looking for better results.”
The Huskies played Monday at Oak Knoll but results of that match were not available at press time. Sweet Home is scheduled to play again today at Aspen.
