Sweet Home’s swimmers don’t celebrate Christmas like most students. They’re in the pool nearly every day and they have two meets – the first at Stayton Thursday, Dec. 27.
Not only that, but they have to swim farther because Stayton has a metric pool.
“As a coach I feel meets during these two weeks that kids are out of school are extremely important, Coach Doug Peargin said. “Meets this time of the season help keep their interest up, which in turn makes for better practice sessions.”
The girls placed second to the hosts, with 90 1/2 points to Stayton’s 95. The boys won with 78 points, over second-place Gladstone’s 68.
Naomi Gunselman in the 100 Butterfly (1:01.8), Emily Thompson in the 500 Freestyle (6:35.5 and Mykayla Nelson in the 100 Backstroke (1:12.3) were all winners for the girls. On the boys side, Jaegar Howatt in the 50 Free (29.7). Justin Hilburn in the 100 Butterfly (1:15.5) and Ryan Yon in the 500 Free (5:43.1) were individual winners.
“Overall, as a team we swam real well,” Peargin said.
The Huskies will be back in action at home Friday in a 3:30 p.m. meet with Salem Academy and Junction City.
