Brandi Vinson wins karaoke contest at Vets Club

Brandi Vinson won her second Double D Karaoke Contest title Saturday night in front of a full house on the hottest night of the year.

Despite the temperatures, it was a standing-room-only crowd at the Sweet Home Veterans Club, which hosted the event.

First place went to Vinson, who won two years ago; second to Brendan O’Brien; and third to Cheyenne Patton, the defending champion.

Judges for the final night were Mike Hall, Glenda Melson and Trisha VanEck.

“It was a close competition and they were separated by very close numbers,” said organizer Debbie Jewell of the final results. “All three judges commented on what a tough decision it was this year.”

The Double D Karaoke Award went to Lacey Avery and the Top Sponsor Award to Seven Feathers Casino Resort.

“We had more cash and prizes to give away this year than we’ve ever had,” Jewell said. “We have a great community that always comes through for us. And this year, donations came from 10 different cities – as far away as Canyonville in one direction and Salem in the other.

“I think we have one of the best contests around and give out the most in cash and prizes. It took two days to figure out who was getting what. The top five receive all of the cash, and all of the prizes and certificates are distributed to all 10 (finalist) contestants. So if you make the top 10, you’re definitely leaving with something.

The contest will celebrate its 10-year anniversary next year, she noted, “and we’re already planning a huge celebration. Lots of surprises in the works.”
