Burke named MVP for girls basketball

Four Sweet Home High School girls basketball players were honored during a July 6 awards dinner at The Point restaurant.

Rising junior Brooke Burke was named the Huskies’ Most Valuable Player. She also made the 4A-3 Oregon West Conference All-league first team.

Recent graduate Natalie Rodgers was presented the Coaches Award for exemplifying the ideals of hard work, determination, commitment, team spirit and leadership. She was also an Oregon West Conference honorable mention.

Kailey James, also a recent graduate, won the Most Improved Award, given to the player who showed the most progress from the season’s beginning to end.

She also won the Newcomer Award, because she had never played basketball prior to this season.

Another recent graduate, Katie Robeck, also received Most Improved honors.

The Huskies finished the season 4-8, with a 2-6 league record.
