Firefighters practiced fire training in a controlled burn Saturday morning, May 31. They must have 10 hours of live fire experience before they are allowed to enter a burning building on the job, said Battalion Chief Guy Smith. Six firefighters are working on the requirement. They must stay below the smoke level to avoid getting caught in a flashover. The burning house is owned by Eric Sheets. He wanted the building burned to expand his neighboring Porsche lot, Eric Sheets International. Firefighters don’t have many opportunities for Burn to Learn training because of the requirements to prepare for them, Smith said. It took about five hours to burn the building as firefighters managed the blaze for different training activities.
