The Boy Scouts of America Cascade Pacific Council Calapooia District has achieved its financial goal for the district for the eight straight time, according to Chuck Mills, district Scout executive. The goal of $43,000 was met by the campaign target date at the end of May, thus assuring that programs for boys and families will be available through the end of 2001.
Calapooia District serves Linn County, North Albany and Jefferson and includes 1,700 youth members.
Mills was thankful to the volunteers who made the campaign a success by the target date. Maxine Humphry was campaign chairman for the 10th consecutive year.
“It used to take the entire year to make that goal,” Mills said. “We are so thankful for all the hard work and the dedicated efforts of our volunteers and want to thank all the wonderful people of our communities who have stood behind the Scouts and our mission with young people.”
Calapooia District is one of 26 districts in the Cascade Pacific Council and one of only seven to achieve its goal by deadline.
Just over $20,000 of the goal came from the families of youth members, with more than $23,000 being given by interested friends of Scouting in the community.
The campaign is set at $43,884 and some activity is still underway to finish contacting friends of Scouting.
“The goal is really the minimum needed to continue important programs for boys, and we are certainly appreciative of support that may continue to be provided in support of our young people,” Mills said. “One need that is yet to be met is funding for summer camp scholarships that are provided as requests are received and as funds are available. With scholarship requests at an all-time high and still coming in, effected somewhat, we believe by the downturn in the economy, we are certain that we will need to have some additional activity to meet this need.”
