Following is a round-up of Sweet Home High School alumni who are competing in sports at the college level:
Jayce Calhoon, a sophomore at the University of Wyoming, qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200 Backstroke in a time trial Feb. 26, beating the qualifying standard of 2:04.99 by three-quarters of a second after missing the mark by two-tenths of a second last year. The trials will be held this summer in Omaha, Neb. June 25 – July 2.
Calhoon and his 800-meter freestyle relay teammates set a school and conference record of 6 minutes, 31.62 seconds at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Feb. 15.
Calhoon and his teammates were named to the MPSF First Team in the event and Calhoon was named to the First Team in the 200 Backstroke (1:46.29) and Second Team in the 500 Freestyle (4:30.00) and 400 Individual Medley (4:00.00).

Dakotah Keys, in his second indoor season as a multi-event athlete at the University of Oregon, just missed the NCAA Indoor Championships qualifying mark of 5675 in the heptathlon at the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships in Seattle Feb. 24-25, finishing second with 5660, a personal best by 200 points.
Keys, who had to sit out the outdoor track season with an injury last year, is expected to compete as the season opens in the next few weeks.

Chemeketa’s men’s basketball team won its first two games in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges playoffs March 3-6 in Kennewick, Wash. Freshman forward Gavin Kauffman of Sweet Home led all scorers with 21 in an 86-75 win over Yakima Valley in a quarterfinal matchup Sunday, March 4, after being one of six Storm players in double figures, with 11, in a 94-84 victory over Bellevue March 3. Chemeketa, 21-7, faced Peninsula Monday night in a semifinal, with the winner moving on to the final at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Kieran Schaefer, a sophomore, swam his second season for Seattle University, primarily in the sprints and middle-distance Freestyle events.

Southern Oregon University’s wrestling team hosted the NAIA Western Regional Feb. 18 and won the event. Freshman Brock Crocker of Sweet Home has seen limited action, including competing in a visit to Stanford that the Raiders lost 25-3, who finished 11-3 in duals for the season.

Ashley Cochran is a freshman utility player for Mount Hood Community College’s softball team, which kicked off action March 3. The Saints play April 7, beginning at noon, at Chemeketa.

Chemeketa CC, where Tasha Saunders and Shelbey Gillespie have signed to play this year, also kicked off its season on March 3 at a preseason tournament in Washington.

As of last week, Hesston College sophomore guard Drew Emmert of Sweet Home was averaging just under 10 points a game over a team-high 29-game stretch. The Larks are 15-15 going into their final regular-season game on March 6.

At Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., freshman Maria Kropf is redshirting in track but competed unattatched during the indoor season in January, running the 60 meters (7.93) and the 60 hurdles (9.13).
