A candidate to replace Jeff Kropf as the Republican candidate for House District 17 will be selected Sunday, Aug. 13, after Clint Bentz announced last week that he is withdrawing his bid to be nominated.
“While I have received great support from many quarters for my candidacy,” Bentz said. “With my current commitments to my family and my business partners, this is not the appropriate time for me to consider a run for the legislature.”
Bentz thanked all those who supported his bid and announced he will actively support whoever the party chooses as the nominee.
GOP precinct committee members will meet at 1:30 p.m Sunday at the Odd Fellows Hall in Scio to select a new candidate to run for the House seat.
Amy Langdon, executive director of the Oregon GOP, said Monday she has received three Willingness to Serve forms.
The three candidates are: Will Tucker, a Lebanon resident who is a real estate agent in Albany; Rick Alexander, a member of the Lebanon School Board; and Tim Kirsch, currently serving his third term as mayor of Mill City.
Willingness to Serve forms can be faxed through this Friday, Aug. 11, or interested candidates can bring a form to the meeting on Sunday, Langdon said. The form is available from the state party office. For more information, call (503) 587-9233.
