James “Sonny” and Gloria Carter of Sweet Home celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, which occurred May 9, with a barbecue at their daughterTeresa’s home on May 31.
The Carters were married May 9, 1959 in Sonny’s grandmother’s house, which they now live in. More than 80 people attended the event.
Both attended Sweet Home Union High School and Gloria graduated in 1959. Sonny retired from Willamette Industries in 1984.
They have three children: Teresa (Riper), Todd and Dianne (Cochran). Grandchildren are Felicia Cochran of San Diego, Calif., and Lance Carter, Zachary Cochran, Jacob Jones, Jessica Fries, Jeremy Carter and Jasmine Carter, all of Sweet Home. They have one great-grandchild, Colton Fries.
