Cascade, Stayton crush SH girls

The Husky girls started their basketball season with a rough opening at home against Cascade on Nov. 27 with a 75-26 loss.

On the road against Stayton on Thursday night, Nov. 29, they lost 60-13. Both opponents were ranked in the top five in the state 4A division last spring.

“It’s going to get better,” Coach Ken Roberts said. “We’ve got a ways to go before we can be competitive.”

The team is working on settling down so “when we get to league, we can compete,” he said.

Cascade’s leading scorer was Pearson with 14 points. Tuttle added 10.

For the Huskies, Ashley Danielson led scoring with nine points. Rylee Cole added seven, Alex Thompson, four; Nicole Fagan, three; and Kishaya Davis, one. Also playing were Paige Niemi, Celena Westfall, Heather Polley and Hillary McCartin.

Atkins led Stayton scoring with 12 points, and Vreeken and Johnson added 11 each.

Jenny Hamn and Niemi led Husky scoring with four each. Danielson added two; Thompson, two; and McCartin, one. Also playing were Cole, Polley, Davis, Westfall and Fagan.
