For The New Era

Welcome to our newest member of Cascadia, Samantha Ann Mitchell, born Jan. 26. She weighed in at 6 lbs. 11 oz. and 18 inches long. That’s 1’6″. She joins her big brother, Connor, all of 18 months old. Proud parents Dawn and Michael have their hands full of wonderful blessings.

Amos Burger flew off to basic training at the Coast Guard base in New Jersey on Sept. 11. His plane was in the air at the time of the attacks on the World Trade Center, so his plane was grounded. So you know Mama Bear Burger (Jean) was fit to be tied. After much worry and concern, he was located and all right. The happy ending to the story is that he graduated on Nov. 10 with his proud parents in attendance. He is now stationed at Port Angeles, Wash., and is an E-2 working on becoming an E-4.

Darlene Spangler had a birthday on Feb. 19 and reports that rumors and nasty gossip to the contrary, she is 21 years old. She has been 21 for several years now. It suits her just fine. She sees no need to change her age when it’s working so well.

Howard Arms has been collecting old newspapers to help Fair Share of Sweet Home pay for the food it gets. Fair Share is a nonprofit organization, and donations are tax deductible. Anyone having a newspaper or cash to donate, please call 367-5994 or Howard Arms. Leona Goss is the coordinator and reports that Dorothy Spriggs won the drawing for the beautiful quilt.

Wildflower Buttitta (She legally changed her name to Wildflower) had a wonderful trip to Kauai, Hawaii. She spent a week enjoying the warm, wonderful weather. She went SCUBA diving and got a great overall view of the island during a helicopter ride. Seems like she brought some of that great weather back with her, and we all appreciate it.

Anyone interested in joining the Cascadia Crafter’s Coop, please send a note listing the type of craft or product you make and whether you are interested in selling it or just displaying it. That was one heck of a storm we had. Only Dallis and Wynn Morris’ house got hit by a tree, so we were lucky. The highway was blocked at Whiskey Butte Road for several hours, and there was no power until Tuesday.

Everyone pulled together to help each other out, great community spirit.
