This issue is dedicated to Nicholas Nivison, who has been brining news items and asking if the new issue is ready yet for so long.
Nicholas wrote this article: On May 1 2003, our black cat, Midnight,” had six babies. Two were bobtails with white faces and gray bodies. We had two other gray long-tailed cats. One went to sleep on me. My sister got her dream, a pure white cat with tan ears. I got my dream too. I have a black cat with a white stripe on its head and white feet.
Dear friends of Cascadia, we are still alive and well in Cascadia. The problem has not been Cascadia but your humble reporter.
Personal sorrows meant writer’s block. As my sister, Meredith, says, we tend to share our joys but keep our sorrows private.
A quick recap and then we won’t dwell on it.
In October, my 17-year-old nephew, Jason Powers, died of no apparent cause. In November, I started suffering attacks of vertigo, now diagnosed as Menear’s disease. In January, my mother, Miriam Hope, passed peacefully at the age of 84. In February, my mother-in-law, Margaret Powers passed from ALS.
It has been a rough winter, and now we look forward to spring. Will it ever get here?
Darlene Spangler is as feisty as ever. For Halloween, she painted her house black, and Toni Thompson gave her orange curtains for the front windows.
At Christmas, she got many additions to her ice cream collection. Darlene says she enjoys collecting ice cream related items because it hasn’t become popular yet and each find is a delight and treasure.
Darlene is recovering nicely from gallbladder surgery. Twenty-one is kind of young for this kind of problem. Sure you don’t want to fess up to your real age?
Jean Burger finally got her new motorized wheel chair. It’s a deluxe model with bigger tires and racing stripes. It looks ready for off-road adventures. Just remember, Jean, no more driving your wheelchair all the way to Sweet Home just because your van broke down.
Amos Burger was promoted to Petty Officer Third Class by the Coast Guard and got to use his father’s chevrons as part of the Navy-Coast Guard tradition.
Triple T Studs moved its office from Cascadia to Sweet Home. We miss you all.
Howard Amos is recovering well from his heart surgery. It was a bad blow when Bruce Hayes died suddenly and Howard had to sort out his affairs. We never could find any of Bruce’s relatives. We’ll miss Bruce. He was quite a character.
The Mountain has a new addition, this time, a new baby.
Nicholas Nivison reports that his St. Bernards are bigger than ever. Hopefully, we can give you a picture soon. Also, there is a brand new litter of pups at the Burgers.
Yes, sir, Cascadia is getting to be the St. Bernard capital of Oregon.
