Catherine Harriman

March 7, 1930 – May 19, 2015

Catherine V. Harriman, 85, of Sweet Home passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015 and is now resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father.

Catherine was born in Waterville, Wash. to Martin and Virena Thiemens and grew up in the Reardan, Wash. area.

She graduated from Reardan High School and in 1951 moved to Eugene to attend Northwest Christian College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in religious education and met her future husband, Mills Harriman.

They married June 19, 1955 in Spokane Wash.

Catherine and Mills made their home in Eugene until 1968 when the family moved to Sweet Home. During her life she was a homemaker, a cook at Camp Koinonia, taught in the headstart program at Long Street School, taught American Sign Language at Linn-Benton Community College, taught American Sign Language to the mentally disabled and served on the board at Sunshine Industries, served as an organist and pianist for several churches, played for numerous weddings and funerals, and was a life member of the Grange.

She loved to sew, quilt, crochet, can and garden.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Mills Harriman; sons Bill Harriman of Vancouver, Wash. and Marty Harriman of The Woodlands, Texas; grandson David Harriman of Portland; granddaughters Janelle Harriman of Vancouver, Wash. and Alyssa Harriman of The Woodlands; sisters Laura Smith of Couer d’alene, Idaho, Virginia Miller of Pasco, Wash., Nancy Weiss of Reardan, Wash. and brother Bernard Thiemens of Long Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Thiemens; and her parents, Martin and Virena Thiemens.

Viewing will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday May 27, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Brownsville Christian Church 117 N. Main St.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory of Catherine to a mission project or mission organization of your choice. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
