Catherine Muir

Catherine Virginia Muir, 86, of Sweet Home, died Aug. 8, 2007. She was born in Centralia, Wash., to William Francis and Sadie Madeline (Edwards) Brooks. She lived in Portland until 1948 and has lived in Sweet Home ever since.

She was a member of Sweet Home Community Chapel for the past few years. Prior to that, she was a member and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for 40 years at the Bethel Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Muir knew and taught classes on Pine Needle Basketry. She oil painted and did crafts. She and her husband Jim were avid rock hounds. She loved the beach, camping, picnicking, hunting, fishing and even bagged five deer on her own. She was an enthusiastic Seattle Mariners fan, right up to the very end. She loved her family and was a friend to all.

Mrs. Muir is survived by her children, Donna Rae Nelson of Sweet Home, William David Townsend of Tonopah, Ariz., and Laurel Lee Colvin of La Pine; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Muir, in 1988; brother, Kenneth Brooks in 2005; and sister, Madeline Garver-Smith, in 2005.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19. at Sweet Home Community Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Special Olympics.
