Celebrating 40 years together

L.J. “Dirk” and Rosie Dirksen of 28411 Liberty Rd. will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary at an open house from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the VFW Hall.

They request no gifts.

Rosemary “Rosie” Simpson of St. Louis, Mo., and L.J. “Dirk” Dirksen of Conde, S.D., were married on Sept. 3, 1964 in Las Vegas, Nev.

They lived in Fountain Valley, Calif., before moving to Sweet Home in 1978. At that time, they purchased the Waterhole Tavern. they owned and operated the tavern until they sold it in 1985.

Mr. Dirksen worked for Oremet in Albany as a quality systems manager. He retired in 1998. His hobbies include traveling and enjoying time with his grandchildren.

Mrs. Dirksen had many occupations, including executive secretary, business owner and bartender. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Their children include Danielé, Lisa, Lydia and Lynn. Grandchildren include Alicia, Zachary and Jake.
