Sweet Home 34
Central defeated the Husky girls basketball team 52-34 Friday night at Central.
“We came out real flat after taking some time off for Christmas,” Coach Jason Gorham said. “So our execution and our timing were a bit off offensively.”
The girls led in three games at the Junction City Tournament, and in two of those games led in the final quarter, before losing by narrow margins.
The Huskies lost the momentum from that tournament, where they were doing things well, Coach Gorham said. “When we came back, we hadn’t found that groove again.”
Recapturing that groove what the Huskies are looking for this week, Coach Gorham said. Philomath Tuesday night (results were unavailable at press time) and Toledo Friday night are both good teams, but Coach Gorham hopes to give them serious competition.
“I think we’ve definitely had a lot of improvement,” Coach Gorham said. “Friday was definitely a step back, but I expect them to get over that this week.…
“Our intesity’s raised since the beginning of the season. They’re starting to understand the offensive and defensive things we’re trying to do. They’re starting to come together. I’ve just been real pleased with how hard they’ve been working.”
The Huskies trailed 8-6 after the first quarter. They trailed 19-15 at halftime and 30-25 after three.
Teresa Lewis led scoring witih 10 points. Lei Himan-Teves added eight; Kendra Greene, six; Chelsea Hackworth, four; Cindy Jones, three; Rachel Gaskey, two; and Jenna Anderson, one.
