CHARLES GROW

Oct. 16, 1917 – March 7, 2015

Charles Franklin Grow, 97, of Sweet Home died March 7, 2015.

He was born Oct. 16, 1917 in Portland to Frank Raymond and Opal Jessie (Glancy) Grow.

He married Myra June Gooding on January 1, 1942 in Portland.

Mr. Grow served in the United States Navy (Seabees) as a 1st Class Carpenter’s Mate during World War II, from 1942 until 1945, in Guam, Guadalcanal and New Zealand.

He received the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his time in the service, he was employed by the family-owned business Bluebird Cabinets, where he learned carpenter skills from his father-in-law.

He then worked for Oregon State Fish and Wildlife as a manager at both the Rock Creek and Klamath hatcheries from 1952 until 1979.

Mr. Grow was the Latter-Day Saints branch president at Chiloquin for 13 years.

He loved woodworking, writing poems and stories, watching the “Sound Of Music,” gardening, traveling and fishing.

Mr. Grow is survived by his son Raymond and daughter-in-law Becky Grow of South Jordan, Utah; daughters Cheryl and son-in-law Rod Bricco of Sweet Home, and Laurie and son-in-law Ray DeBortoli of Klamath Falls; brother James E. Davis of Gladstone; 14 grandchildren and 27 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Myra (2007); son Roger (1976); sister Loretta Boales (2011); brother Robert Grow; and parents Opal and Frank Grow.

Viewing will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweet Home.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Final burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, at Finley Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Portland.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
